Supporting You in Planning Ahead

Life is unpredictable and there may come a time when you are unable to make important decisions for yourself. A Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows you to appoint a trusted individual to make choices on your behalf — whether for health, welfare, property or financial matters.

At JGC Law, we guide clients through every step of the process with clarity and care. Since 1987, our approach has been rooted in professionalism, discretion and the belief that careful planning provides peace of mind for the future.

Types of Power of Attorney

  • Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

We assist with the preparation and registration of LPAs, which come in two forms:

Health and Welfare LPA – Grants authority for decisions on your medical care, daily routine, and wellbeing.

Property and Financial Affairs LPA – Allows your attorney to handle your banking, investments, and financial commitments.

  • General Power of Attorney

Designed for short-term use, this option enables someone to act on your behalf temporarily, such as during travel or business arrangements.

  • Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA)

Although no longer available to create, EPAs signed before October 2007 remain valid. We help clients register and manage existing EPAs where needed.

Why Setting Up a Power of Attorney Matters

  • Peace of Mind – Knowing your affairs will be handled by someone you trust.

  • Avoiding Complications – Prevents delays and uncertainty if you lose capacity without arrangements in place.

  • Flexibility – Covers both personal health decisions and financial management.

  • Family Protection – Reduces stress and legal hurdles for loved ones during difficult times.
